 As
I made my way through Rockwell during the years 1972 – 78,
little did I think that I’d one day, find myself in the position
of President of the Rockwell College Union. But… twenty six
years later, here I am!
It’s traditional to say that I am honoured
to assume the post… and I am. However, it is probably more
accurate to say that I am delighted to be appointed President of
an organisation that keeps my own personal connection with the College
alive in a very practical way.
In common with every man and woman who was educated
in Rockwell, the time I spent there represented an important stage
in my life. I received a good academic education even though “still
to realise his potential” appeared on my report cards more
often than not.
However, I also received an excellent life education
which stimulated interests and experiences which may have had a
profoundly positive influence on my life to date and for which I
am very thankful. In many different ways, Rockwell provided me with
the strong platform from which I launched into the big bad world.
The Rockwell College Union is a well organised,
vibrant organisation, the key purpose of which is to maintain and
develop links between past pupils of all backgrounds and ages and
links between the alumni and the school. We have a hardworking,
energetic Governing Body. We have a busy schedule of well supported
events throughout the year. We also assist the College in practical
ways, ranging from career advice for students to funding development
projects.
The Rockwell College Union is an inclusive organisation
with a diverse and geographically spread membership of over 1000.
My aim is to increase the number of members during my term of office.
I would encourage you to join because, in doing so, you will re-establish
a link with those with whom you spent your own formative years.
You will support the College and you’ll have some fun along
the way.
