The Rockwell College Union's Annual Dinner 2005 took place on Friday March 11th in the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin.

Once again, we had a "full house" with 280 people attending. This year's dinner was sponsored by Anglo Irish Bank plc.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Rockwell Person of the Year to Very Rev Aidan Lehane CSSp.

Michael Butler rifled the archives to present an informative synopsis, both in words and pictures of Aidan Lehane's life, with particular emphasis on his period in Rockwell covering the fifties, sixties and early seventies. A large number of former students who were in Rockwell in the "Hanners" era attended. In addition to the Dublin Crystal trophy, Fr Lehane received a gift of a trip to New Zealand for the Lions Tour.

Past pupils from many generations were represented at the dinner spanning the classes from 1941 to 2004. Over 20 students from 2004 attended representing a great turnout from last year's Leaving Cert class. There were particularly good attendances from the milestone years of 1965, 1975, 1985, 1990 and 1995. Fr Billy Cleary, President of Rockwell spoke of the ongoing links between the College and the Union while the President of the Union, Billy Murphy thanked all who contributed to making the evening such a success. He particularly paid tribute to Master of Ceremonies on the night, Gerry Mac Mahon and the Chairperson of the dinner organising committee, Yvonne Kennedy who once again managed to plan and run an excellent event.

Featuring the following years: 1995, 1990, 1980, 1975, 1970, 1965, 1960 & 1955

The Governing Body of the Union confers the prestigious “Rockwell Person of the Year Award” on individuals who have made a particularly significant contribution to Rockwell. This year’s Rockwell Person of the Year was the Very Rev. Aidan Lehane C.S.Sp. Father Lehane had a memorable, positive and lasting influence on generations of pupils at the school during the fifties, sixties and early seventies. Father Lehane was presented with the award at the Annual Dinner.
